Grocery stores and convenience stores have long had problems managing inventory So the industry is creating new and innovative ways of keeping track of items, reducing waste, and cost optimization One such solution is the creation of a smart barcode that would give more real time information about the products.
We combined this with the existing store camera infrastructure to create an inventory management solution that updates inventory in real time. In addition, the app also lets the store managers and employees add and edit new products on the fly, change layout and update it in one single step.
Infinate partnered with the client to deploy this solution across major well known grocers and convenience store chains across the US.
A New Approach
We decided to use the existing in-store camera infrastructure to keep track of inventory. With only minimal hardware additions, all products in the store were able to be triangulated on with at least 2 camera views. With the help of smart barcodes, a new innovation that was introduced at the client locations, the system is able to update inventory continually as shopping events happen. Moreover, this system has the added advantage of connecting with other software to automatically order new products, provide real time reports and have many other added benefits.
